Blackout in Nizhyn after Russian strikes: schools switch to remote learning, water is on schedule

In Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, after massive Russian attacks on energy facilities, the city was left without electricity. Local authorities urgently convened an emergency commission and adopted a number of decisions to stabilize the situation.

This is stated in a statement by Nizhyn Mayor Oleksandr Kodola.

According to the mayor, the educational process will be changed due to the lack of light.

“First of all, starting Monday, October 6, all educational institutions in the city will switch to distance learning,” Kodola noted.

He added that critical infrastructure facilities, including hospitals and the water utility, are running on generators. The water utility has already published a water supply schedule.

The city has also set up eight “invulnerability points” where residents can charge their phones and stay warm.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that the power system in the Chernihiv region remains overloaded, even despite the restrictions imposed. In order to avoid a complete power outage in the region, additional outages have to be applied .

As is known, Russian strikes on energy facilities in the Chernihiv region caused a network failure , leaving 307,000 consumers without electricity.
