Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has publicly stated that Budapest will not allow Ukraine to join the European Union, and has also accused Kyiv of interfering in the country’s domestic politics.
Telex writes about this.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he sees no prospects for Ukraine joining the European Union, either in the coming years or in the distant future. According to him, there will be no parliament in Hungary that would support such a decision even within the next century.
Orban stressed that his country will continue to block both Ukraine’s European integration steps and financial assistance to Kyiv from the EU. He is convinced that joint financing of Ukraine from European budgets is dangerous and could undermine the stability of the European Union itself.
Separately, the Hungarian Prime Minister accused the Ukrainian authorities of trying to exert political pressure on Budapest. According to him, Kyiv is allegedly interested in changing the leadership of Hungary and wants to see a government more loyal to Ukraine in power. Orban also said that he fears the active participation of Ukrainians in the Hungarian electoral processes.
In addition, the politician said that the leaders of the EU countries were allegedly presented with a closed document from the European Commission, which envisages Ukraine’s accession to the European Union by 2027. According to him, this plan also contains large-scale financial obligations – about 800 billion euros of direct support and more than 700 billion euros of additional costs.
Orban said he initially saw the proposals as a starting point for discussion, but said the document was adopted without changes. He warned that such decisions could shift the financial burden to future generations of Europeans.
As a reminder, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he would block all European Union aid to Ukraine if the EU does not support the American “peace plan.” He wrote about this in a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
At the same time, the Hungarian Prime Minister stated that his country is not interested in the fall of Ukraine, as this would become a serious problem for Hungary.
