Blood Moon in March: what Ukrainians will see

A total lunar eclipse, known as a Blood Moon, will occur on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The phenomenon will last for more than five hours, but it will not be visible in Ukraine.

This is reported by Live Science.

According to NASA and the Time and Date service, the total duration of the eclipse will be about 5 hours and 38 minutes. During the total phase, the Earth’s shadow will completely cover the Moon, giving it a characteristic red hue.

The peak of the phenomenon will occur at 14:38 Kyiv time. At this moment, it will be daytime in Ukraine, and the Moon will be below the horizon.

Residents of North and South America, Australia, and East Asia will be able to observe the eclipse. For Ukrainians, the only opportunity to see the Blood Moon will be online broadcasts from leading observatories.

One of these broadcasts is traditionally organized by The Virtual Telescope Project, an international astrophysical project that broadcasts live from different parts of the world.

Despite the eclipse’s invisibility, astronomers advise paying attention to the evening sky. After 6:00 PM, a bright full moon will rise, decorating the night landscape.

Scientists note that such total eclipses occur infrequently. The next phenomenon of this magnitude will be observed by humanity on the night of December 31, 2028, to January 1, 2029.
