Body of Ukrainian found in Romania after crossing border through mountains

A 28-year-old Ukrainian citizen was found dead in Romania after crossing the border through the mountains and losing the ability to move.

This was reported by the rescue service of the Maramures province.

As noted, the day before, at around 5:00 PM, border police stopped a Ukrainian at the foot of the mountain. He was a hundred meters from the border.

The Ukrainian told the border guards about his “companion,” who was in critical condition — with weakness and swelling in his leg. The man could not walk, he remained on a makeshift bed made of pine branches.

Rescuers later found him dead. According to them, the Ukrainian was without equipment, with bare ankles and wearing sneakers.

“This situation once again emphasizes how unforgiving the mountain environment is without proper preparation, especially in the conditions of stress and despair that prompted him to embark on this journey,” the report says.
