A ten-year-old boy died in Vinnytsia Oblast after not receiving food for a long time — almost two months.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The boy’s body was discovered on December 16, in the house where he lived with his mother. According to the conclusion of the forensic pathology examination, the cause of death was starvation.

It is noted that the child had a disability. The boy lived in unsanitary conditions and received no food for almost 60 days – only water in small quantities.

Experts believe that the death could have been prevented if specialized medical care and proper supervision had been provided.

The boy had not been attending school since May 2025, and his health had gradually deteriorated. However, the mother did not seek medical help.

The family was registered with social services, whose representatives, together with doctors, visited them at their place of residence.

“During the visits, they recorded the child’s inadequate living conditions and the deterioration of his health, which was reflected in the relevant documents. At the same time, no decisions were made by the authorized bodies to remove the child from the family and provide the necessary treatment,” the UCP said.

Investigators established the fact of improper fulfillment of parental duties and the lack of timely protective measures by the relevant services, which led to death.

The child’s mother has already been detained. She was informed of the suspicion and was placed in custody as a preventive measure. She had previously been held accountable for failing to fulfill her parental duties.

Also, information under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the official negligence of the social service, whose records the family was registered with, and other authorized bodies, was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations.

In addition, the suspicions were reported to the social service worker assigned to the family and to the family doctor.

As a reminder, in the Odessa region , law enforcement officers exposed a criminal group that was selling Ukrainian children abroad, where they were illegally adopted. For this, the organizers of the scheme received large sums of money.
