Brazil elects president: Lula da Silva wins fourth term

Президент Бразилії Луїс Інасіо Лула да Сілва

Incumbent Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the second round of the presidential election and won a fourth presidential term.

This was announced by the Supreme Electoral Court of Brazil.

According to the final results, Lula da Silva received 51.79% of the vote, while his opponent, Senator Flaviu Bolsonaro, received 48.21%.

Thus, the incumbent president was able to make up for the first-round deficit. In early October, Bolsonaro edged ahead of Lula da Silva, but neither candidate received more than the 50% of votes needed to win.

Flaviu Bolsonaro is a senator from the state of Rio de Janeiro and the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who was convicted in a coup attempt case.

According to The Guardian, Lula became the first candidate since Brazil’s return to democracy to lose the first round of the presidential election but win the second.

Previously, Lula da Silva visited Moscow , where he planned to discuss the war against Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The President of Brazil also stated that he saw no point in personally participating in the Peace Summit without Russian representatives.
