In the UK, Ukrainians are increasingly being denied refugee status. The government uses as an argument that the western regions of Ukraine are supposedly not in a war zone and are suitable for living.

This is reported by the BBC.

Amid an overburdened migration system, the British government has stepped up its approach to asylum applications. The Home Office said fighting in Ukraine was concentrated mainly in the east, while in the western regions “the situation remains under control”.

The refusals refer to a report by the British Home Office from January 2025. It states that there are no restrictions on movement within Ukraine, as well as the possibility of internal relocation to regions where there is no active hostilities. The British authorities have included Kyiv and seven western regions – Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, Ternopil, Rivne and Volyn – as “relatively safe” areas.

At the same time, lawyers and human rights activists draw attention to the contradiction in the approach of British structures. In particular, the Foreign Office continues to officially warn British citizens against traveling to any part of Ukraine, including the western regions, except in cases of extreme necessity.

We remind you that the German government is preparing legislative changes that will reduce social assistance for Ukrainian refugees arriving in the country after April 1, 2025.

As reported, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukrainian refugees in the country receive more generous assistance than unemployed Hungarians, and did not rule out limiting financial support in the future.
