Britain names condition for recognizing Palestine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the British government is only prepared to recognise a Palestinian state as part of a comprehensive, negotiated peace deal.

Reuters writes about this.

After consultations with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on ways to end the war in Gaza, Starmer stressed the need for practical solutions to bring an end to the fighting closer.

“Recognition of a Palestinian state must be one of those steps. I am absolutely committed to that position. But it must be part of a broader plan that will ultimately lead to a two-state solution and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis,” the British prime minister stressed.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced his intention to officially recognize the Palestinian state.
