Budanov made a prediction about the end of the active phase of the war

The active phase of Russia’s war against Ukraine could end by the end of 2026, but further escalation is expected before that. At the same time, a return to negotiations will depend on the readiness of both sides.

This was stated by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

According to Budanov, there are chances of ending the active phase of hostilities by the end of the year, although the situation is currently developing towards aggravation.

“There are chances, and in the spring the pace of negotiations was very good. Now we have all escalated, everyone understands this. In order to get out of the escalation, usually you need to maximize the escalation,” Budanov said.

He explained that the current escalation could become a prerequisite for further de-escalation and the resumption of the negotiation process.

“Escalation now, de-escalation and then continuation of the dialogue. If the parties are interested in this,” the head of the President’s Office noted.

When asked whether Russia might be interested in negotiations in the future, Budanov answered in the affirmative.

“I think at some point, yes,” he said.

According to him, one of the factors that may influence the development of events is the upcoming elections in the US, although this factor is not decisive.

In addition, Budanov assured that Ukraine does not feel pressure from international partners regarding the need to end the war as soon as possible.

“I don’t feel, I don’t see pressure on us,” he stressed.

Let us remind you that the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia has not reached a dead end . Despite the pause at the highest level, contacts between the parties continue.
