Head of the Presidential Office, Kirill Budanov, stated that on the eve of the anniversary of the Volyn tragedy, July 11, Poland may take new escalatory steps in relations with Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with RBC.
According to Budanov, he has information about the Polish side preparing a series of “immature escalatory steps.” At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine will not accept ultimatums from any state.
“The last country to try to give us an ultimatum was the Russian Federation. No offense to Poland, but it’s slightly less powerful,” he noted.
Commenting on the possibility of improving Ukrainian-Polish relations, Budanov stated that Kyiv will respond depending on Warsaw’s further actions.
“They’ll make their move—we’ll see, and we’ll be held accountable. No one will sit quietly,” he said.
At the same time, the head of the OP expressed hope that a possible escalation would not develop into a crisis, but would end in de-escalation.
“Peak escalation always leads either to catastrophe or to de-escalation. I hope we will choose the path of de-escalation,” Budanov concluded.
As a reminder, Poland has suspended the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine , which were planned as part of the agreement to exchange Ukrainian drone technology. These aircraft will now be gradually decommissioned.
It was previously reported that Poland would not support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union unless Kyiv revised its approach to honoring OUN and UPA figures, in particular Stepan Bandera.
