Budget Committee supports military salary increase: details

The Verkhovna Rada’s Budget Committee unanimously supported an amendment to the state budget that instructs the government to increase the salaries of military personnel. However, there is no final decision on the increase in payments yet.

This was reported by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

According to him, the committee supported amendment No. 1279, which was signed by deputies from both the Servant of the People and opposition factions. It provides for an increase in military salaries, not just a revision of their size.

At the same time, at the government’s request, a specific percentage increase was removed from the document. The committee also took into account amendment No. 1283 by MP Purtova, which obliges the Cabinet of Ministers to review the salaries of military personnel.

Zheleznyak explained that the committee’s decision does not mean an automatic increase in payments. For this, the Verkhovna Rada must support the amendment during the budget review, and the government must amend the resolution regulating the financial support of the military.

According to the MP, the parliament plans to begin considering budget amendments next week, likely on Tuesday or Wednesday. The amendment on military salaries may be put to a separate vote for confirmation.

After the first reading, the government will have about two weeks to prepare the final version of the budget for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada.

Zheleznyak also admitted that the Cabinet of Ministers may ignore the parliament’s instructions or limit itself to a formal review of salaries without a real increase.

That is why the deputy insists on establishing a minimum percentage increase in payments. In addition, he proposes to redistribute at least UAH 200 billion in the state budget to increase the salaries of military personnel.

The People’s Deputy emphasized that the support of the amendment by the Budget Committee was an important step, but the final decision will depend on the vote of the Verkhovna Rada and further actions of the government.
