In the Chernihiv region, during training shooting at the firing range of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a cadet, for unknown reasons, opened fire, resulting in the death of two soldiers.

The National Police reported this.

“Yesterday, the police received information that a cadet fired automatic weapons at military instructors during a shooting exercise on the territory of a training center. As a result of the injuries he received, two soldiers died,” the statement said.

The police detained the suspect. Information about the incident was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under the article on intentional murder (clause 1, part 2, article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Subsequently, the Ground Forces released an official statement regarding the incident at the training ground.

In particular, the military noted that the suspect is currently in custody. It is also reported that the command of the military unit where the incident occurred is facilitating the investigation. The military law enforcement service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is also involved in ensuring a proper investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased servicemen. The command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is taking all necessary measures to clarify the causes and circumstances of the tragedy, as well as to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the Ground Forces wrote.
