Canada Unveils $1.5 Billion Military Aid Package to Strengthen Ukraine’s Defense

During the G7 summit, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a new defense aid package to Ukraine valued at over 2 billion Canadian dollars (approximately 1.5 billion US dollars). The announcement came ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and included plans for a significant expansion of sanctions against Russia.

This is reported by Ukrinform.

“We are providing Ukraine with additional drones, helicopters, and various types of ammunition—the total military assistance exceeds 2 billion Canadian dollars,” Carney stated.

In addition to defense support, Canada announced new sanctions against Russia. The list of restrictions targets dozens of companies and individuals aiding the Kremlin in evading sanctions. Moreover, more than 200 vessels belonging to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” used to circumvent the oil embargo, have also been sanctioned.

Another significant measure is the decision to extend a $2 billion loan to Ukraine, secured by guarantees on frozen Russian assets.

“This is our contribution to Ukraine’s victory. We are working closely with European and other allies to unite efforts. Our support will remain unwavering until Ukrainians achieve a just peace,” Carney emphasized.
By the way, Ukraine received another tranche of financial assistance from the European Union – the state budget received 1 billion euros under the ERA Loan program.

We would like to remind you that on June 4, the 28th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues of Ukraine in the Ramstein format was held in Brussels, which brought Ukraine record amounts of military assistance and became another confirmation of unwavering support from international partners.
