Canada will officially join the Eurovision Song Contest and compete for the first time in 2027, which will be held in Bulgaria.

This was reported on July 1 by the Canadian public broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada and the European Language Union (EBU).

CBC/Radio-Canada President and CEO Marie-Philippe Bouchard stated that the Eurovision debut will be an opportunity to showcase Canadian artists on one of the world’s most renowned music stages. She added that it will also allow Canadian viewers, who have been actively following the contest for many years and voting in the “Rest of the World” category, to support their own representative.

EBU Director of Eurovision Martin Green congratulated Canada on joining the “Eurovision family” and stressed that the contest, although originating in Europe, continues to open up to countries from all over the world.

He also recalled Canada’s close ties to Eurovision. In particular, the country has been represented on numerous occasions by Canadian artists, including 1988 winner Celine Dion.

Following Eurovision 2026, Canada ranked among the top three countries by votes in the “Rest of the World” category. Furthermore, Canadians were among the largest ticket buyers among fans outside of Europe.

Canada will be the first new country to participate in Eurovision since Australia joined the competition in 2015. In 2027, the Canadian representative will compete in the semi-final, and the organizers promise to announce details of the national selection at a later date.
