The state-owned company “Centrenergo” has slowed down negotiations with the Swedish fund Swedfund regarding the modernization of the Trypilska TPP with the transition to biofuel. The person responsible for the negotiations has been fired.
This is mentioned in the Bihus.Info story.
Negotiations with Swedfund were led by former expert of the Reform Support Office Olga Yevstighneeva. According to journalists, the fund was ready to finance the development of a feasibility study for a new power unit at the Trypillya TPP.
“Centrenergo” agreed on the first stage – the creation of a decarbonization roadmap, which was to be paid for by European partners. Yevstigneeva reported that the European Investment Bank has already approved a grant of 400 thousand euros.
According to Bihus.Info, after the start of work, the company actually stopped the process, and Yevstigneeva was fired. The material notes that “Centrenergo” may not have been interested in switching to biofuels and reducing coal use so as not to lose demand for it.
Journalists also remind that the company has repeatedly appeared in scandals involving coal purchases, in particular schemes involving intermediaries during the period when the company was influenced by Ihor Kolomoisky’s structures.
In November, it was reported that Centrenergo transferred UAH 132 million in advance payment for coal to a private company, but the supply did not take place, and the funds have not yet been returned.
We will remind, the person of the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, former advisor and ex-head of his cabinet Andriy Gota, at the head of the supervisory board of “Centrenergo”, allowed the loss of more than 130 million hryvnias from the budget, which were “drained” to the laying company for undelivered coal.
As reported, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukrainian energy facilities, including substations powering the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants, on the night of November 8. The Ukrainian authorities viewed these actions as a deliberate threat to Europe’s nuclear security and called on the international community to respond immediately.
