Military analyst and former NATO planner Philip Ingram said Ukraine has opened a new front in the war by launching a series of strikes on Russian oil refineries. The Ukrainian drone attacks are turning the Kremlin’s oil and gas empire into a “chain of fires” and striking at the very heart of Russia’s war economy.
This is reported by The Sun.
Military intelligence expert Philip Ingram said that Russia, which for years financed its military through oil and gas exports, now faces its greatest vulnerability. Ukrainian long-range drones, capable of covering more than a thousand kilometers, are carrying out pinpoint strikes on key Russian energy facilities, causing billions in damage.
According to Ingram, the attacks are not only focused on oil storage facilities, but primarily on complex and almost irreplaceable processing units that are the “heart” of every plant. Their damage under sanctions can put the plant out of action for months or even years.
“This is a real oil war. Ukrainian drone attacks are not just creating spectacular fires, but are destroying the foundation of the Russian economy and depriving the Kremlin of revenue to finance the war,” the expert emphasized.
Ingram explained that the strikes on recycling are directly affecting the daily lives of Russians: fuel prices are rising, lines are appearing at gas stations. Thus, the war, which for a long time was only a television picture for citizens, is becoming a tangible reality.
The expert paid particular attention to the strike on the Salavat plant, one of the key ones in Russian oil refining. Ukraine has already struck this facility twice in a week, causing powerful explosions and fires.
Ingram stressed that even a single cheap drone could cause billions in damage to Russia by disabling strategically important infrastructure. He called it a “classic example of asymmetric warfare” that could lead to internal destabilization and growing discontent among Russians.
“Ukraine’s message is clear: this war has a price for you and your economy,” the expert summarized.
By the way, the Russians announced a drone attack on the Chuvash Republic on the morning of September 27. There, an oil pumping station was allegedly hit . The drone attack was confirmed by local authorities.
Let us recall that on the night of September 26, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with other units of the Defense Forces, struck the facilities of the Afipsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, on the night of September 25 , a series of powerful explosions were heard in the Belorichensky district of the Krasnodar region of Russia . According to local residents, at least six strikes occurred after 02:30.
