China has launched large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, dubbed Just Mission 2025. The exercises are taking place in five areas off the island’s coast and in the surrounding airspace.

This is reported by Deutsche Welle .

The start of the exercises on December 29 was announced by Shi Yi, a representative of the Eastern Zone of the People’s Liberation Army’s Combat Command. According to him, the maneuvers include the organization of live fire.

The exercises focus on preparing patrols for combat readiness at sea and in the air, establishing integrated control, blocking key ports and areas, and conducting multidimensional deterrence.

“This is a serious warning to separatist forces acting in favor of Taiwan independence and external forces interfering in its affairs, and is also a legitimate and necessary measure to safeguard China’s sovereignty and national unity,” said Shi Yi, a spokesman for the Eastern Zone Combat Command of the People’s Liberation Army of China.

Journalists noted that these are China’s first major military exercises near Taiwan since April. The maneuvers come amid a tense situation around the island.

As is known, the People’s Republic of China considers Taiwan to be part of its territory. The Taiwanese authorities do not recognize this position.

At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that if the situation around Taiwan escalates, Russia will support China . According to him, the corresponding actions are provided for by bilateral agreements between Moscow and Beijing.

It was previously reported that journalists analyzed a leak of secret documents and found that Russia agreed to supply China with armored vehicles and train Chinese airborne units in airborne operations , which in theory could be used to attempt to capture key facilities in Taiwan.

Recall that US President Donald Trump refused to approve a $400 million arms package for Taiwan as he tries to negotiate a trade deal and a potential summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

By the way, at the beginning of the year , China began construction of at least five new barges specifically designed for landing troops . This could become part of Beijing’s military strategy in the event of an attempted landing on Taiwan.
