President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine does not consider China as a possible guarantor of security after the end of the war with Russia.

He said this during a meeting with journalists on August 20.

Why not China in the guarantees? Firstly, China did not help us stop this war from the very beginning. Secondly, China helped Russia by opening the drone market. And also: China was among the signatories of the Budapest Memorandum, but did nothing when Crimea was occupied,” the head of state emphasized.

According to him, security guarantees should be provided only by those states that are truly ready to help Ukraine. In this context, Zelensky noted the United States and partners currently working on the architecture of guarantees. He expects that the basic configuration will be ready for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin within 7-10 days.

Zelensky also stressed that Washington’s readiness to join this process is of crucial importance:
“Previously, the United States was not a direct participant in the discussion. Now we have heard about their readiness to join. This is very important for Ukraine and all of Europe. I am grateful to President Trump for this.”

He added that it was precisely the lack of coordination with the United States that had previously caused doubts among European partners regarding the reliability of future guarantees.

Earlier , during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin suggested China as a country that could provide security guarantees for Ukraine.
