Civilian human shield: Russians took children and elderly people from Kupyansk through a gas pipe

Russian military personnel were evacuating civilians from the Kupyansk community in Kharkiv Oblast via a gas pipeline on September 27. Surveillance drones recorded 9 people among the group, including children, elderly people, and a person on crutches.

This was reported by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”.

According to the corps, men of draft age in civilian clothes were moving alongside the civilians. The Charter suggests that these could have been Russian military personnel who had taken off their uniforms and were trying to leave the combat area under the cover of civilians.

The Ukrainian military did not open fire on the group, as there were children and elderly people among the people.

The Charter noted that they had recorded this incident and would transfer materials for the investigation of war crimes.
