The world could experience a new heat record in the coming years due to the climate crisis and rising temperatures on the planet.

This is reported by The Guardian.

According to forecasts by British meteorologists, there is an 86% chance that one of the years between now and 2030 will be the hottest on record and surpass the 2024 record.

Scientists also consider the risk that the average temperature on Earth will temporarily exceed the limit of 1.5°C compared to the pre-industrial period to be very high.

The situation could be further worsened by the return of the El Niño climate phenomenon, which is capable of further warming the planet as early as 2027.

One of the study’s authors, Leon Hermanson, explained that the combination of natural climate processes and global warming increases the risk of new extreme temperatures.

Scientists emphasize that the main cause of warming remains emissions from fossil fuels, which continue to heat the atmosphere and provoke more and more weather disasters – from heat waves to floods and droughts.

According to researchers, the consequences of the climate crisis are already taking human lives around the world.

UN climate chief Simon Stiell said the recent heatwaves in Europe and Asia were another signal of how quickly the climate is changing.

He emphasized that the world must reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and transition to clean energy as soon as possible.

Separately, scientists have focused on El Niño, a natural phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean that raises global temperatures. According to forecasts, there is a 96% chance of its return by the end of 2026.

That is why, according to researchers, 2027 could set a new temperature record on the planet.
