In Volyn, the SBU counterintelligence exposed a Belarusian KGB agent who was spying on Ukrainian military personnel on the northern border. The young attacker, tempted by “easy money” on Telegram, provided the enemy with intelligence about checkpoints, fortifications, and military echelons.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has prevented another attempt by enemy agents to infiltrate a strategically important area. During a special operation in the Volyn region, a 24-year-old local resident was detained who worked for the Belarusian KGB and collected data on defense facilities on the northern border.
According to the investigation, the man did not have an official job and was looking for “part-time work” in pro-Russian Telegram channels. This is how he came across representatives of the Belarusian special services, who offered him to spy on the Armed Forces of Ukraine in exchange for a reward.
Among the agent’s main tasks was to monitor the location of checkpoints, defensive lines, and other engineering structures of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. He also tried to record the routes of military trains that were transiting through the region.
To gather information, the attacker personally walked around the surrounding areas, took photos of the fortifications, and marked them on Google Maps. He sent all of this to the curators via an anonymous chat in the messenger.
Thanks to the SBU’s proactive work, the traitor was identified in time, all his actions were documented, and during the search, a phone with evidence of communication with a Belarusian special agent, whose identity had already been established by Ukrainian counterintelligence, was found.
Additional security measures were promptly taken – defensive positions and logistical routes of the Ukrainian military were placed under increased protection.
SBU investigators have already informed the detainee of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The man is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Earlier, in Kharkiv , the SBU detained a former actor who worked for Russian special services and helped coordinate missile strikes on the city.
As a reminder, Ukrainian security forces prevented large-scale attacks that were being prepared by Russian intelligence. In several regions of the country, a network of agents preparing sabotage against military personnel was exposed. A total of six suspects were detained who were trying to carry out terrorist attacks using improvised explosive devices.
As reported, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an Air Force officer who was cooperating with the Russian FSB.
