Colonel-General of the Russian Nuclear and Biological Weapons Forces Found Dead in Moscow
Colonel-General of the Russian Federation’s Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces Stanislav Petrov, who is called one of the founders of Russia’s modern chemical defense forces, was found dead in Moscow.
This is reported by Moskovsky Komsomolets, and also confirmed by Russian propaganda agencies with references to law enforcement agencies.
Petrov’s body was discovered by relatives on the morning of April 2 in his apartment in the Moscow House on the Embankment.
According to Russian media, a gun was found next to the deceased. Preliminary reports indicate that it was a suicide.
It is reported that the Colonel General’s body was found in the kitchen – he was sitting on a chair.
Before his resignation, Petrov was the last commander of the USSR’s chemical defense forces, and until 2001 he headed the newly created Russian Chemical Defense Forces.
After completing his service, he worked as a chief researcher at the Federal State Budgetary Institution “27 Scientific Center”, which is under sanctions by the EU, the US, the UK, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Canada due to participation in the development and use of chemical agents by the Russian military.
Petrov was also the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Herald of the Army of the Red Army of Defense”.
It was previously reported that former Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit was found dead in his personal car.
