Lublin Triangle Brigade: Build It Now — Or Beg for Mercy Later

A few thoughts after the latest Russian missile-and-drone strikes — especially those targeting western Ukraine. The specifics vary, but one thing is clear: these attacks expose new vulnerabilities and demand extraordinary, immediate decisions from Kyiv and its partners.
Why can’t the Lithuanian–Polish–Ukrainian Brigade named after Grand Hetman Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi be used to counter Russian attacks, which, as far as we can tell, is currently not performing any concrete tasks?
Yes, the brigade was created for other purposes, but those circumstances have long since changed. It could easily be re-equipped to counter enemy UAV attacks — a move that would provide both valuable joint training and practical experience for future missions.
Moreover, Russia’s tactics often blend military strikes with outright terrorism against civilians. Their real goals are to intimidate, force capitulation, and demonstrate a sense of impunity right next to NATO’s borders.
I believe the relevant Ukrainian agencies should study this issue and, if appropriate, formally propose it to our Lithuanian and Polish partners. They know better than anyone that the war has now moved dangerously close to their territories and is already knocking on the doors of their families.
And there is no need to wait for NATO.
We cannot afford any more delay: we must join a common defense now.
As a reminder: the Lithuanian–Polish–Ukrainian Brigade named after Grand Hetman Kostyantyn Ostrozky is a Lublin Triangle formation created in 2014 from the armed forces of Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine; its final formation was completed in the autumn of 2015. Its primary mandate is peacekeeping and humanitarian missions under the auspices of the UN, EU, NATO, and other international organizations, based on UN Security Council mandates.
