On Thursday, June 19, the “Business vs. Sanctions” conference began in Kyiv. All those present at the event, except for the representative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, believed that the restrictions against Petro Poroshenko were politically motivated.
As part of a professional discussion on the legal aspects of sanctions policy, Petro Poroshenko’s lawyer Ilya Novikov delivered a report on the topic “Sanctions against citizens of Ukraine: what does the legislator say and will sanctions replace criminal proceedings?” Novikov emphasized the ambiguity of the state’s approaches to introducing restrictive measures against its own citizens – in particular, using the example of the case of Petro Poroshenko.
So, during the conference, Novikov asked who does not consider the sanctions against Poroshenko to be politically motivated.
Only one hand rose in the audience. It was Olena Vakulenko, Director of the Department of Sanctions Policy and Representation in Courts of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
As a reminder, before the start of the Supreme Court session, Petro Poroshenko stated that President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decree on the introduction of sanctions should be canceled , because the president’s representatives have not been able to provide any documents on the grounds for such sanctions for five months.
As reported, according to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, the vast majority of Ukrainians negatively perceived the sanctions against Poroshenko, considering them a fight against the opposition and an attempt to distract attention from the situation on the front.
