Conflict in a car ended in a shooting: attacker detained in Mykolaiv

In Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers detained a 39-year-old Chilean citizen suspected of murdering two acquaintances. According to the investigation, a conflict arose between the men during a car ride, after which the suspect opened fire with an automatic weapon.

This was reported to the police of the Mykolaiv region.

The tragedy occurred on the evening of June 30 at around 9:50 p.m. near the “Shkilna” bus stop on Heroes of Ukraine Avenue. The police received a report of shooting in an Opel Vectra car and two men with no signs of life.

According to the investigation, there were three foreigners in the car: a 39-year-old driver and a 33-year-old passenger, both Colombian citizens, as well as a 39-year-old Chilean citizen sitting in the back seat.

“During a sudden conflict, the suspect fired several shots from an automatic weapon at his acquaintances. The victims died at the scene from their injuries,” the police said.

The attacker was arrested immediately after the crime. During the test, he was found to have a blood alcohol content of 2.29 ppm.

Law enforcement officers seized shell casings and three weapons from the car, which were sent for examination.

Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine into the double murder. The issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved.

If convicted, the man faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.
