Analysts from the UK and Ireland have assessed Vladimir Putin’s possible demands for ending the war against Ukraine. In their opinion, the Kremlin will not agree to peace without control over the entire strategic part of the Donetsk region, the absence of effective security guarantees for Ukraine, and a change of power in Kyiv.

This is reported by The Independent .

Scott Lucas, a professor of international politics at University College Dublin, said the Kremlin would not agree to lesser terms.

“The Kremlin will not accept anything less than the capture of the entire strategic Donetsk region, the rest of the country without effective security guarantees, and the fall of the Zelenskyy government,” Scott Lucas said.

He added that Putin cannot agree to a different outcome, as it would mean the failure of his project after significant losses. According to the expert, the Kremlin’s hopes are linked to possible political agreements with the United States, in particular through the approach to relations as transactional.

Professors Stefan Wolf and Tetiana Malyarenko noted that the war has become a war of attrition with the active use of drones, but its basis remains the traditional military doctrine of massive offensives. In their opinion, both sides have sufficient resources to maintain the current situation, and rapid exhaustion of one of the sides is unlikely.

Professor Mark Webber believes that the impasse can be broken only under two conditions: a change in China’s approach or a significant buildup of weapons for Ukraine by European powers. At the same time, he stressed that such scenarios currently look unlikely.

Experts agree that a negotiated end to the war remains difficult due to the Kremlin’s desire for victory through Kyiv’s surrender, which they estimate is unlikely.

It was previously reported that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is convinced that the Russian army is winning the war, so he is ready to continue fighting for Donbas.

Recall that Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia will have to spend at least two years and pay the price of about 800,000 dead soldiers to occupy eastern Ukraine.
