Corrected the Russian attack on the Dnieper: SBU detained a Russian agent
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a man suspected of assisting Russian special services in preparing a massive attack on the Dnieper River on the night of June 2.
This was reported by the press center of the SBU.
According to the investigation, the suspect turned out to be a former Ukrainian military man from the Krynychanskyi district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, who also has a Russian passport.
The SBU claims that the man monitored the flights of fighter jets and attack helicopters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are involved in protecting the skies over the frontline region. He passed the data he received to the Russian side.
Investigators believe that Russian intelligence services were trying to obtain information about the work of Ukrainian air defense and possible locations of combat aircraft in order to strike them in the future.
To collect information, the suspect traveled to various locations in his own car during air raids and recorded the directions and times of flights of airplanes and helicopters.
According to the investigation, Russian handlers recruited him via Telegram. There, the man himself sought contacts with representatives of the aggressor country.
SBU officers detained the suspect at home. During the search, law enforcement officers seized a Russian passport and a phone, in which they found evidence of contacts with Russian special services.
The man was charged with treason committed during martial law. The court remanded him in custody without bail.
If convicted, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
