Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Mykhailo Podolyak stated that corruption is an integral part of the modern economy regardless of the political system of the country. He also reported that the Ukrainian authorities responded promptly to the corruption scandal in the energy sector.

He spoke about this on the national telethon.

Podoliak stressed that similar cases occur in different countries around the world, regardless of whether they use democratic or authoritarian models of governance. He stated that corruption is an integral part of the modern economy, regardless of the political regime.

“Corruption is an integral part of the modern economy. Regardless of whether you live in democratic countries or authoritarian countries. Such cases arise constantly. The question is how quickly and how specifically the state reacts,” said the advisor to the head of the OP.

Podoliak reported that the Ukrainian authorities reacted to the latest corruption scandal in a short time. He emphasized that “a day or two or three and there was already an appropriate reaction from the president and from state institutions.” According to him, investigative actions are ongoing regarding the suspects.

He also stated that the necessary political and sanction decisions have been made in this case. In addition, according to the official, there are already preliminary legal steps aimed at further investigating the situation in the energy sector.

By the way, NABU and SAPO have handed the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine a request for a preventive measure . Prosecutors plan to request his detention.

We will remind, after the “Midas” operation, which exposed large-scale corruption in “Energoatom” and shook up the government offices, a systematic campaign to discredit NABU and SAPO was launched in the Ukrainian Telegram . Anti-corruption authorities called the operation one of the most effective in 2025, but in parallel with its successes, a wave of identical posts appeared attacking investigators and prosecutors.

On the eve of the meeting, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed NSDC sanctions against the co-owner of Kvartal-95 Timur Mindich and businessman Oleksandr Zukerman, who are linked to a corruption case in the energy sector.

It was previously reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a large-scale Operation Midas to expose corruption in the energy sector.
