COVID-19 Mortality Rate Increases in Ukraine

Ukraine is recording a new increase in coronavirus cases. In two weeks of August, 10 people died from complications caused by COVID-19 in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Chernihiv regions and Kyiv.

Over the past week, more than 3.5 thousand cases of infection were registered – three times more than last week. At the same time, the Ministry of Health emphasizes that such statistics correspond to seasonal indicators.

“Last year there was a similar situation, when the increase in the incidence rate was observed in August, and not in October-November,” explained Chief Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin.

Health Minister Viktor Lyashko assured that currently the strains circulating in Ukraine do not have epidemic or pandemic potential. According to doctors’ forecasts, the wave of cases may continue until the end of September and recur in subsequent years, but the situation is easier than in the past.

The Ministry of Health called on Ukrainians to get vaccinated, especially people from risk groups.

Earlier, Kyiv recorded a rapid increase in hospitals due to COVID-19 . Over the course of a month, the number of patients in hospitals increased more than fourfold, a quarter of whom were children.
