The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv the former head of the Republican Committee of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on Fuel, Energy and Innovation Policy, who worked for the Russian Federation after the seizure of the peninsula.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
According to the investigation, immediately after the occupation of Crimea, he received Russian citizenship and offered his assistance to the Russian Federation.
It is known that Sergey Aksenov appointed him to the position of “Minister of Fuel and Energy of the Republic of Crimea.”
While in this position, the man helped the Russian Federation establish control over the strategic infrastructure of the peninsula. These include the Simferopol and Sevastopol CHPs, the Tavria CHP, a network of solar and wind power plants, gas pipelines and gas compressor stations, oil depots and oil terminals in Kerch and Feodosia.
The investigation established that within two years after his “appointment” to the position, the attacker attempted to integrate and re-register Crimean energy assets under Russian law.
After his dismissal, he continued to work in the Russian Federation, heading a number of local mining companies.
SBU law enforcement officers detained a collaborator in Kyiv, where he arrived for personal matters.
During searches at his residence, Russian passports, bank cards, and documents confirming his work in the Russian Federation were discovered.
SBU investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason).
He is currently being held without bail and faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
It was previously reported that the former First Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral Serhiy Yeliseyev , was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison with the deprivation of the military rank of “vice admiral”.
