Critical shallowing of rivers predicted in Ukraine: which regions are at risk

Starting from the second half of September, the situation with river water levels may worsen in some regions of Ukraine. During this period, the indicators in some of them may drop to critically low values.
This is reported by “Patriots of Ukraine”.
This concerns, in particular, the Dniester, Syan, Western Bug and Tisza basins. The reason may be a prolonged deficit of precipitation combined with unfavorable hydrological conditions.
The western regions are most at risk. Low levels may be observed in Lviv and Zakarpattia regions, as well as partially in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Volyn and Khmelnytsky regions.
The largest decrease in water levels is predicted in the Dniester basin. This is one of the main water arteries of western Ukraine, so changes in its water content may affect the state of ecosystems and water supply to settlements.
Low water levels can also be observed in the Syan and Western Bug. The prolonged shallowing of these rivers creates additional risks for areas where they are used for economic needs.
In Transcarpathia, the problem may primarily affect the Tisza basin. A significant drop in the level could complicate water use and negatively affect natural ecosystems.
The further situation will depend on the amount of precipitation and weather conditions. If there is not enough rain, the period of low water may continue.
The consequences of low water content can be felt not only by settlements, but also by agriculture, industry and energy. It can also affect the state of natural ecosystems. In areas where indicators have already approached multi-year lows, it is important to use water resources sparingly.
It was previously reported that prolonged heat and drought continue to dry out Europe. Due to the critical drop in water levels in the Rhine, Danube and Po, problems have already arisen with shipping, the operation of power plants and industrial enterprises.
In addition, by the end of the 21st century, life on Earth could change significantly due to global warming, large-scale forest fires, the decline of traditional livestock farming, and the development of genetic technologies. This forecast was published by scientists who studied the possible consequences of an increase in average temperatures on the planet.
