A Strategic Opening: Ukraine Gets a New Shot at Defeating Russia

Ukraine’s biggest foreign policy challenge after Donald Trump’s election victory was the growing perception that the United States had more pressing priorities elsewhere in the world. Now, however, shifting global dynamics may be creating a new opportunity for Kyiv to regain Washington’s attention and strengthen its strategic position.
The attacks on Iran over the last three months have tripled Putin’s oil revenues. The Russian budget was already breathing heavily, with a deficit of 11 trillion rubles over the past year, but Putin suddenly received such a helping hand from Netanyahu and Trump.
“The US has more important things to do in the world,” and “you don’t have the cards,” Trump said to our faces 1.5 years ago and stopped aid to Ukraine.
The result: the US lost in this “more important matter” in the Middle East.
Xi told Trump at a meeting in China that the US was no longer number 1 in the world. He also threatened the Americans with war over Taiwan (and Trump swallowed it).
Finally, Israel itself, right in the midst of the Epic Fury campaign, threw the “worst problem of nuclear weapons to the Ayatollah” and suddenly switched to the war in Lebanon. In translation, the whole grandiose “more important matter” turned out not to be worth close attention, even for Israel itself.
But this is exactly what Europe and the world paid for, with store prices rising due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Now a number of conclusions.
The “more important” topic of the Middle East has failed. Trump has failed. Inside the US, the war in Iran has become toxic. US citizens do not support it. Netanyahu is the one Americans blame. Only 37% of Americans support continued support for Israel (against 57% of Americans supporting additional weapons and financial resources).
And since the “more important cause” has failed, it is now in the interests of Ukraine and the Western world for the US to return to our “less important” Ukrainian-European front and help crush the rush.
Trump had time to realize that Putin had bluffed him, fooled him, told him a story that the Russian army’s offensive was unstoppable, and threatened him with nuclear missiles. And because of this, Trump is a fool in the eyes of the whole world. This was understood by both the Chinese and the Iranians, who are now mocking him in negotiations and behaving more arrogantly towards the United States.
The US defeat in Iran showed that the US is not capable of breaking the Russia-China-Iran coalition on its own. The US proved incapable of forcing even the weakest member of the coalition of evil to admit defeat on its own.
So.
The US needs allies, and without an alliance with Europe, it will not be able to restore its degraded status.
A window of opportunity opens for us.
US assistance to Ukraine in the war with Russia is supported by 64% of American citizens. This topic is still moral, correct, and popular. Trump and the groups around him have bypassed the will of the American people. But it is here, in Ukraine, that the US can regain its number one status after all the defeats, as it always did after defeats in Vietnam and Afghanistan. Trump himself, after failures, always seeks to find a new success story in which he can shine.
That’s what Ukraine is. Ukraine has made a technological revolution on the battlefield. Ukraine is capable of winning.
And thanks to Ukraine’s victory, the US can not only regain its honor and status in the world but also make a profit—as a result of Raska’s capitulation, on profitable contracts for Chevron, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, and Naftogaz in Russian fields.
Zelensky is obliged not to sit back but to seize the moment: together with EU leaders, rush to the US and fill the vacuum of ideas in the heads of the US administration with correct and useful ideas.
