Cuba, according to US media, is considering using the drones it has acquired for potential attacks on US targets. This could escalate tensions between the countries, given military and intelligence data.
This is reported by Axios .
According to the publication, Cuba has been purchasing strike drones from Russia and Iran since 2023 and stockpiling them on the island. This amounts to more than 300 units of equipment, which are reportedly deployed in strategic areas.
US officials say they are considering various scenarios for the possible use of these systems. Potential targets include US military facilities, including the Guantanamo Bay base, as well as warships and the state of Florida.
“When we think about these types of technologies being so close together, and the range of attackers, from terrorist groups to drug cartels, from Iranians to Russians, it’s concerning,” the US official said.
According to journalists, over the past month, Cuban representatives have allegedly approached Russia with requests for additional supplies of drones and military equipment. The data also indicates Cuba’s interest in counter-tactics used by Iran.
Separately, it is noted that CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Cuba and warned local authorities about the possible consequences of participating in military scenarios.
“They [Cuban soldiers] are part of Putin’s meat grinder. They are learning Iranian tactics. This is something we have to prepare for,” a senior US official said.
Recall that the US military has significantly increased the number of reconnaissance flights near the coast of Cuba . According to journalists, since February 2026, the US has conducted at least 25 flights using aircraft and drones.
As previously reported, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sharply criticized the Cuban government, calling it a “big problem.” At the same time, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel declared his readiness to send the army to Venezuela amid US actions in the region.
By the way, previously, the administration of President Donald Trump was actively looking for insiders in the Cuban government who could help influence the island’s authorities and conclude an agreement that would allow the communist regime to be weakened this year.
