Czech Republic will not provide temporary protection to men of military age from Ukraine

The new requirements do not mean an automatic refusal for all Ukrainian men aged 23 to 60. Temporary protection will continue to be provided to those who can confirm that they legally left the territory of Ukraine, have a deferment, exemption from military service, or other legal reason for leaving, and have fulfilled the requirements of Ukrainian legislation regarding military registration.

The restrictions apply only to new applicants and do not apply to Ukrainians who already enjoy temporary protection in one of the European Union countries.

To confirm the legality of departure, a passport with a mark on crossing the state border, as well as paper or electronic documents confirming the right to leave or the presence of a deferment, may be required. In addition, the Czech Ministry of the Interior may use information from the “Reserve+” application, which contains up-to-date data on military registration and issued deferments.

At the same time, refusal to grant temporary protection does not mean automatic expulsion from the country. Persons who do not meet the conditions for obtaining this status, but cannot return to Ukraine for objective reasons, may apply to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic for a long-term visa for tolerated stay or another type of residence permit. Each such application will be considered individually.

It was previously reported that the Council of the European Union officially extended temporary protection for Ukrainians who left the country due to the full-scale Russian invasion. At the same time, additional conditions were introduced for new applicants.
