The National Police of Ukraine exposed a criminal organization in Kryvyi Rih that left part of the city without hot water and caused damage of almost 30 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

The defendants organized a large-scale scheme to embezzle property under martial law. This led to the complete cessation of hot water supply for over 250,000 residents, dozens of enterprises, and critical infrastructure facilities in the city.

According to law enforcement officials, allegedly to “move the equipment for its preservation during martial law,” the suspects took over 1,100 water heaters from strategic heating points to the closed territory of the enterprise, and later dismantled brass tubes containing non-ferrous metals from there.

To conceal their illegal actions, the suspects filled the cavities of the water heaters with foreign objects and returned them to their original positions, thus pretending that they were in working condition.

“Criminal police operatives established that the suspects sold dismantled pipes to local metal warehouses for cash, without preparing accounting documents and without radiation control as required by law,” the press service explained.

The police have already identified all the participants and organizers of the scheme. Among them were two former heads of the state-owned thermal power enterprise of Kryvyi Rih.

Law enforcement officers recorded more than 65 episodes of criminal activity. Based on the evidence collected, police officers reported suspicion to all ten members of the organization. They face up to 13 years in prison with confiscation of property.

We will remind you that in the Transcarpathian region, entrepreneurs, in collusion with officials of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, appropriated UAH 80 million in grants under the state program for the creation or development of horticulture, berry growing, and viticulture.
