Russia is gradually replacing its S-8000 Banderol drone missiles with the newer Dan-T modification and is ramping up production of these weapons. During September, Russian forces used about 350 munitions of both types against Ukraine.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine .
According to Yuri Ignat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian defense industry has increased the production of high-speed missile drones. At the same time, they are used approximately 10 times less often than jet drones.
“Banderol” will already be replaced by a newer version – “Dan-T”, – said a representative of the Air Force.
Ignat emphasized that there is currently no reason to claim that Russia can scale up production of these munitions in the same way as it does for jet attack drones. The real production capabilities of Russian enterprises remain unknown.
“Banderol” and “Dan-T” are high-speed air attack vehicles, the characteristics of which are close to cruise missiles. According to the Air Force, their speed is about 600 km/h, and the flight range can reach about 600 km.
The peculiarity of these munitions is that they are launched from air platforms. Initially, the Russian troops used Orion strike and reconnaissance drones for this, and later began to use helicopters. Ignat did not rule out that in the future Russia may expand the list of carriers, in particular, involve aircraft.
The first cases of the use of “Banderoles” were recorded about a year and a half ago. At that time, it was a question of single launches over the Black Sea in the direction of Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. Over time, the intensity of the use of these weapons increased.
According to Ignat, “Banderol” and “Dan-T” pose an additional threat to Ukrainian air defense. To counter such targets, it is necessary to use existing air defense and electronic warfare means.
“Dan-T” is a Russian air-launched rocket munition, described in open sources as a drone missile or a loitering munition. It is classified as a high-speed air target, the characteristics of which are close to those of cruise missiles .
The main risks that the Ukrainian military is paying attention to are the speed of flight and the need to counter a new type of air target. The use of such munitions increases the load on Ukrainian air defense, and their speed reduces response time.
It is worth adding that the exact capabilities of the Russian-made “Dan-T” and the full list of characteristics have not yet been confirmed.
It was previously reported that in about six months, Russia will be able to control drones and missiles over Ukraine in “online” mode using its own Rassvet satellite system.
