Dangerous mutation: how the secret services are turning into an elite PR agency for “Dynasty”

War is an era when state institutions must work as a single, perfectly tuned mechanism for protecting national sovereignty.

However, in Ukrainian realities, we are observing a dangerous mutation: the national security apparatus is increasingly being used not to fight an external enemy, but to serve the political survival of specific figures.

The published report of the Foreign Intelligence Service (FISS) on Russia’s preparation of a “large-scale disinformation campaign” is a classic, textbook example of such institutional degradation. Instead of a dry, factual analysis of military-strategic threats, society was offered a primitive media-technological construct. Its main and only goal is to preventively block any internal criticism, legitimize managerial failures, and protect those involved in corruption or reputational investigations.

The most effective way to protect an official from the consequences of his own actions is to declare the very fact of discussing these actions a “hostile special operation.” This is not a new method, but it has now reached hypertrophied proportions.

Intelligence officially adds the names of top officials (such as the detained ex-head of the OP Andriy Yermak) or toxic media figures (such as Yulia Mendel) to the list of “targets of Russian information attacks.” With this step, the state creates an unprecedented presumption of immunity. From now on, any independent journalistic investigation, anti-corruption audit, or even just citizens’ indignation at the actions of these individuals is automatically labeled as “working for the enemy,” “rocking the boat,” or “playing along with the Kremlin.”

The essence of the manipulation: Public control, which is the key to the survival of a democratic state, is equated with state treason. A corrupt person or a person involved in criminal proceedings receives the status of a “victim of the Russian IPSO”, which exempts him from responsibility before his own people.

In this ecosystem of circular responsibility, the role of publications like ” Babel ” is much more dangerous and insidious than the role of the official telethon or state press services. In “Babel”, they position themselves as intellectual, liberal and equidistant media. That is why their cooperation in distributing the temniks of the President’s Office performs the function of information laundering. They legalize censorship, wrapping it in the wrapper of “objective news journalism.”
