Dangerous weather in Kyiv: fog, rain and yellow alert level

A significant deterioration in weather conditions was recorded in Kyiv – the city was plunged into dense fog, which significantly hampers visibility on the roads.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, meteorologists warn of fog that will persist from the morning of October 8 until the first half of the day. Visibility in the city is limited – only 200-500 meters.

In this regard, a yellow (I) level of danger has been declared, indicating potential risks for drivers and pedestrians. Forecasters also note that in addition to fog, light rain is expected in Kyiv, which will further complicate the road situation.

Tips for drivers in foggy weather:

Drive slower: speed should be adapted to visibility conditions.

Turn on the low beam headlights and, if available, the fog lights.

Keep an increased distance from other cars.

Avoid sudden braking and maneuvers.

In case of a forced stop, turn on the hazard warning lights.

Recommendations for pedestrians:

Cross the road only at pedestrian crossings and at green traffic lights.

Make sure drivers see you before you step onto the roadway.

Wear reflective elements or flickers – this is especially important in conditions of poor visibility.

The capital and the region will remain cloudy and wet. Light rain is possible in Kyiv, and moderate precipitation is possible in some places in the region.
The wind is northeast, at a speed of 7–12 m/s.
Air temperature – from +11° to +16° in the region and about +13°…+15° in the capital.

Forecasters warn that this meteorological situation is due to the activity of the southern cyclone and the passage of atmospheric fronts. Therefore, city residents should be cautious, especially in the morning and evening, when the fog will be thickest.
