Denmark’s military intelligence service has for the first time described the United States as a potential threat to national security.

This is reported by Bloomberg, emphasizing the change in Copenhagen’s approach to its longtime ally amid disputes over Greenland. Danish intelligence is one of the country’s key services and plays a central role in assessing external risks.

In their report, analysts noted that the United States is increasingly putting its own interests first, using economic and technological resources as a tool of influence, including over allies and partners. In particular, Washington’s attention to Greenland has grown due to increased global rivalry in the Arctic, as the island is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

It should be noted that US President Donald Trump has previously expressed a desire to “annex” Greenland, which has caused diplomatic tension between Copenhagen and Washington. The American leader has also not ruled out the possibility of using military force to achieve this goal.

The intelligence agency stressed that the US is using economic leverage, including threats of tariffs, to pressure partners, and does not rule out military scenarios even against allies. The main external risks for Denmark remain Russia and China, and the overall security threat to the region “is becoming more serious.”

Analysts warn that doubts about the US role as a guarantor of Europe’s security could prompt the Kremlin to step up hybrid attacks against NATO. At the same time, China continues to use economic and military leverage to undermine Western influence. Intelligence notes that the Baltic region remains the area with the highest risk of Russia using military force against NATO.

As a reminder, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has submitted a bill to the US Congress that would withdraw the United States from NATO.

As reported, the United States has developed a confidential strategic document that outlines a roadmap for Russia’s gradual return to the global economic system after the end of the war.
