The United States may postpone the previously set deadline for signing a peace agreement for a certain period of time.

This is stated in the Bloomberg article.

Despite US President Donald Trump’s desire to sign the document as soon as possible, after a meeting in Geneva with Ukrainian diplomats, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that the deadline could be extended.

In his opinion, postponing the signing deadline to next week will allow both sides to hold more negotiations.

“You know, whether it’s Thursday, whether it’s Friday, whether it’s Wednesday, whether it’s Monday next week, we want it to be as soon as possible,” he said.

As is known, Rubio was the head of the American delegation that met with Ukrainian officials in Geneva.

He described the meeting as the most productive in the efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.

“But there is still work to be done, and because this continues to be a work in progress, I don’t want to declare victory or finality here,” the US official added.

According to the joint statement, the parties jointly developed “an updated and improved peace program.” They also agreed to “work intensively on joint proposals in the coming days.”

“Diplomacy has been given a new lease of life, and that is good. We have our state position, we have our Ukrainian dignity, and we must act in a way that strengthens it, not undermines it,” commented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

However, according to two sources familiar with the matter, US officials are pressuring and insisting that Ukraine accept a 28-point framework agreement to end the war with Russia as the basis for negotiations and issue a statement to that effect.

It is worth noting that Trump previously stressed that Ukraine should agree to Washington’s proposed peace deal by Thanksgiving Thursday. He is convinced that this time is “the most favorable” for ending the war.

Recall that a meeting of the US and Ukrainian delegations took place in Geneva, during which the parties discussed the updated American peace proposal. The negotiations showed significant progress and agreement on positions on further steps .

Later, the key provisions of the draft US “peace plan” , allegedly agreed upon by representatives of Donald Trump and the Kremlin, became known. The document contains 28 points concerning the security, territories, economy and political future of Ukraine.

Subsequently, the full text of the European counter-draft to the American 28-point peace plan for Ukraine was published in Brussels . The document was prepared by the United Kingdom, France and Germany, proposing changes to each point of the basic plan.

By the way, last week the United States handed over two draft documents to Ukraine , including a separate piece on security guarantees. This document provides for three key provisions that should operate on the model of the principles of NATO’s Article 5.
