U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are set to hold talks in Alaska on Friday, amid the war in Ukraine and new nuclear threats. The two sides could discuss a ceasefire as well as a nuclear deal that would allow both sides to “save face.”

Reuters reports this.

A source close to the Kremlin claims that the talks may end with partial agreements: “It seems that some conditions will be agreed upon tomorrow, because Trump cannot be refused, and we cannot refuse.”

Putin’s terms involve a gradual reduction in hostilities but the preservation of levers for escalation. Analysts warn that Russia could offer a “temporary truce” without real control from the West.

Sam Green of the Center for European Policy Analysis notes: “If Russia retains the freedom to escalate further without facing serious constraints, from Putin’s point of view this would be an ideal scenario.”

As a reminder, on August 14, Donald Trump made several statements before a summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, expressing his opinion on the Kremlin’s readiness for an agreement, doubts about a quick ceasefire, plans for a new meeting with Zelensky, and his intention to discuss borders and territorial issues.

As reported, US President Donald Trump said that he does not seek to impose new sanctions against Russia, preferring diplomacy and negotiations . At the same time, he emphasized his readiness to apply economic restrictions if the situation requires it.

In addition, US President Donald Trump is suggesting the possibility of reducing US military forces in Europe if this helps convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a peace agreement on Ukraine.

By the way, a large-scale rally in support of Ukraine was held in Anchorage, Alaska. Locals, along with activists from all over the state, took to the streets with Ukrainian flags and a single slogan: “Ukraine and Alaska — never again Russia!”
