The SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office, working with the Ministry of Defense, uncovered a large-scale scheme to embezzle public funds.
This was reported to the SBU.
In particular, the CEO of a Zaporizhzhia company was exposed for supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine with defective equipment. This involved 43,000 ballistic goggles and goggles-masks for the needs of ground units. Their cost is 60 million hryvnias.
As noted, the defendant supplied equipment, as he had two contracts with the Ministry of Defense, concluded in 2024.
“However, instead of high-quality products stipulated by the terms of the signed agreements, the contractor shipped completely defective equipment to customers that did not meet safety requirements. At the same time, the organizer of the deal received the entire amount of budget funds earmarked for ammunition,” the report says.
During searches at the man’s workplace, documents confirming the existence of the scheme and money from the sale of products were discovered.
The entire batch of defective equipment has now been removed from the logistics warehouses and contractors’ offices.
SBU officers have informed the company’s CEO of suspicion of misappropriation, embezzlement, or taking possession of property through abuse of office, committed on a particularly large scale. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Investigators are currently trying to identify all individuals involved in the scheme.
Previously, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) stopped the activities of a criminal organization that had seized almost 3 billion hryvnias of budget funds allocated for the purchase of mines for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
