Defenders remembered in silence: Land Forces held a symbolic memorial service
On the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, which is celebrated annually on August 29, servicemen of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine joined the all-Ukrainian initiative “Table of Remembrance”.

The photo is not just an empty table with plates waiting for its guests. It is a table that will never be fully assembled. It is a quiet, deep tribute to those who will no longer sit next to us, but remain in our memory.
This symbolic act is not a one-time gesture. It is a way to remind ourselves and others: heroes are alive as long as we remember them. Because true memory is not only in the official days of mourning, but in every look at the empty place, in every name that does not disappear from the lists of hearts.
“We remember them every day. And in the silence of our thoughts. And in a phrase thrown to a comrade. And when we come across joint photos. Nothing will make us forget,” the military say.
The “Table of Remembrance” is a silent “thank you” to those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. It is about the pain that never goes away, and the dignity we carry forward.
As a reminder, Ukraine commemorates the military and volunteers who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the state on August 29. The Day of Remembrance was introduced in 2019 by a special presidential decree – the date was chosen in honor of those who fell during the withdrawal from Ilovaisk on August 29, 2014. The symbol of the day was the sunflower – a reminder of the battles in the encirclement among the ripe fields.
As reported, today, August 29, a state-wide event took place in the village of Markhalivka in the Kyiv region – the official opening of the National Military Memorial Cemetery. This space will become the main place of honoring Ukrainian defenders who gave their lives for the country’s freedom.
