Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Gazprom Neftokhim Salavat oil refining complex in the city of Salavat, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, on Thursday, October 8, 2026. A fire broke out on the territory of the enterprise after the strike.

This was reported by the General Staff.

It is noted that Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat is one of the largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes in Russia. The enterprise is capable of processing up to 10 million tons of hydrocarbon raw materials annually.

The complex produces motor gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, polyethylene, and other products of the oil refining and petrochemical industries. The enterprise is also involved in meeting the needs of the Russian armed forces.

The Defense Forces of Ukraine emphasized that the destruction of such facilities is aimed at reducing Russia’s military-economic potential and is the exercise of Ukraine’s right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The final consequences of the strike are currently being determined.

It was previously reported that on October 6 and the night of October 7, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of Russian military facilities in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation. Among the targets hit were an airfield, a radar station, electronic warfare equipment, warehouses, and drone control points.
