Defense forces sink sanctioned container ship Yanina near Novorossiysk

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian naval drones sank the Russian container ship Yanina, which belonged to FESCO, a company from the Rosatom group. The ship was under sanctions and had a cargo capacity of over 100,000 tons.

According to Zelensky, on the night of August 1, two Ukrainian naval drones attacked the container ship “Yanina” 130 nautical miles from Novorossiysk. As a result of the strike, the ship sank.

The President noted that the container ship was under sanctions and had a cargo capacity of over 100,000 tons. The vessel belonged to FESCO, which is part of the Rosatom group.

Earlier, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said that the container ship sank as a result of the attack, and all 17 crew members were rescued. According to him, the Black Sea Fleet’s naval aviation and the crew of the Delphinus vessel were involved in the rescue operation.

Likhachev also claimed that the Yanina transported exclusively civilian cargo – from frozen foods to construction and finishing materials.

By the way, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported the destruction of three Russian military targets in the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson region and Crimea . According to intelligence estimates, the losses of the occupiers exceeded $20 million.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported another series of strikes on Russian logistical and military facilities used by the enemy, including in temporarily occupied territories.
