Defying Trump: Republicans and Democrats unite to prevent US war with Iran
US congressmen have submitted a resolution prohibiting Trump from intervening in a war between Israel and Iran.
This is stated in the text of the resolution.
The resolution, initiated by Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Hanna, prohibits any unauthorized US military action against Iran. Only the United States Congress has the right to declare war.
Congressmen point out that the Constitution does not allow the president to independently start a war against a country that has not attacked the United States. This is the prerogative of Congress.
“The war between Israel and Iran is not our war,” Congressman Thomas Massie previously said.
The resolution has already been supported by 27 congressmen from both parties. Among those who supported it is Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The congressmen’s initiative appeared amid reports of Trump’s possible decision to strike Iranian nuclear facilities.
Recall that on the night of Friday, June 13, the Israeli army launched a large-scale operation against Iran and massively attacked nuclear and military facilities.
Subsequently, US President Donald Trump sharply escalated his rhetoric towards Iran, demanding its “unconditional surrender” and declaring full United States control over the country’s airspace.
It was previously reported that a bipartisan resolution has been registered in the US Congress, the purpose of which is to prohibit Donald Trump from attacking Iran .
