Democrats ahead of Republicans in seven key US states – poll
Democratic candidates are ahead of Republicans in seven states ahead of the Senate midterm elections on November 3. However, in most of these races, the difference between the candidates remains within the margin of statistical error.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey by The New York Times and Siena Research Institute, published on November 1.
The research was conducted from October 23 to November 1 among voters who are likely to vote.
Democrats have the biggest advantage in Michigan, where Abdul El-Sayed received 53% support compared to 42% for Republican Mike Rogers. In Texas, James Talarico is supported by 50% of respondents, while Ken Paxton is supported by 43%.
Results in other states:
- Maine – Troy Jackson (51%) vs. Susan Collins (45%);
- Ohio – Sherrod Brown (49%) vs. John Gasted (44%);
- Kansas – Adam Hamilton (49%) vs. Roger Marshall (44%);
- Alaska – Mary Peltola (48%) vs. Dan Sullivan (46%);
- Iowa – Josh Turek (48%) vs. Ashley Ginson (47%).
Despite the Democratic lead in all seven states, only Michigan and Texas have a margin of error. The other five states remain open.
Siena Research Institute Director Don Levy noted that poll results suggest a change in the Senate majority, but the final result will depend on the vote.
Recall that previous national polls also showed Democrats ahead of Republicans . At the same time, the results of the Senate race remained less certain than for the House of Representatives.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to its lowest level in his second term . According to RealClearPolitics, 38.2% of Americans approved of his performance, while 58% disapproved.
