Denmark reduces defense support to Ukraine by almost half
Denmark will significantly reduce military aid to Ukraine in 2026.
This is reported by DR.
According to the response of Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, Copenhagen plans to allocate 9.4 billion Danish kroner to support Ukraine next year. This is significantly less than in 2025 – 16.5 billion kroner, and even less than in 2024, when the aid amounted to almost 19 billion kroner.
Defence Committee member Simon Kollerup said Denmark had already provided an extremely large amount of support, proportionately more than its size and economy allowed. He said it was logical that the amount of aid was now “stabilising”.
However, another committee member, Stinus Lindgren, stressed that the reduction was not timely, as the situation in Ukraine remains critical. He is convinced that Denmark should return to previous levels of support.
Collerup, on the other hand, believes that more countries should now take a leading role in helping Ukraine.
In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Denmark has provided Ukraine with 70 billion kroner in aid – that’s over 9.3 billion euros.
It was previously reported thatthe United States tried to convince European Union countries not to use frozen Russian assets for a reparations loan to Ukraine.
