Deportation of Ukrainian children: Canada imposes sanctions against Russian officials

Canada has expanded its sanctions list to include eight more Russian citizens, whom Ottawa considers to be involved in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia, their indoctrination, and militarization.

This was announced by the Canadian government.

Among the sanctioned individuals are the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kurenkov, and the head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (“Rosmolodezh”), Grigory Gurov.

Sanctions were also imposed against the chairman of the board of the “Movement of the Firsts” Artur Orlov and the head of the board of the regional branch of the organization, Denis Chernobay.

The list includes Vladimir Khromov, an advisor to the Russian Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, and Elena Milskaya, the head of the board of trustees of the National Center for Assistance to Missing and Affected Children.

In addition, Canada added Alexander Kulgin and Vitaliy Suk to the sanctions list.

The Canadian government said these people were or remain involved in the illegal deportation and forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia. Ottawa also pointed to their role in the indoctrination and militarization of minors.
