President Volodymyr Zelenskyy assured that the US government shutdown did not affect weapons supplies to Ukraine.
He said this while talking to journalists, Ukrinform reports .
“I know what was in the media, that there is a “shutdown”, there are some challenges, they did not block supplies to Ukraine. This is important,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
At the same time, the president named the most active countries participating in the PURL program, through which Ukraine receives American weapons. According to him, these are the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
“There are very responsible countries here that understand the price of this protection and the price of life in Ukraine in winter,” Zelenskyy noted.
In addition, he stated that Ukraine is discussing another round of contributions with these countries, however, he did not disclose details.
As a reminder, the US federal government will officially shut down at midnight on October 1. The reason is the failure of attempts to extend funding for the new budget year due to deep disputes between Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
By the way, several planned meetings of the Ukrainian delegation with representatives of the American authorities have already been disrupted this week : US officials were asked to “stay home.”
It is worth noting that sources in the Ukrainian government have confirmed that the shutdown of federal institutions has already affected negotiations on defense cooperation.
